Historical Tip: Puerto Plata’s Name
Rumor has it that when Christopher Columbus and his crew arrived first time to our coasts, they were impresed by our “Silver Mountain,” In that time, our Isabel de Torres Mountain was full of Grayumbo trees, which has the particularity of two sides color leaves: Green upfront and Gray in the back.
Furthermore, on cloudy and windy days, all leaves turned upside down, projecting a silver looking mountain cover, giving us the Puerto Plata (“Silver Port”) name.
